I am glad to know that the Thompson Women’s Secondary Training School, Cuttack is celebrating its Centenary in the month of March, 2002 and a Souvenir will be published to commemorate the occasion.

Education is the key that opens the door to life and promotes national development. For proper education, proper training of teachers particularly women, hold great significance. The noble work initiated by the then missionaries in Orissa, has helped in producing qualified women teachers in the state. I am sure, the school would uphold its century old great tradition in imparting quality educational training to women teachers with renewed dedication and vigour.

I wish the celebration and publication of Souvenir all success

On behalf of the Baptist Missionary Society, I am delighted to send warm greetings to the Thompson Women’s Secondary Training School as it celebrates the Centenary of the school this month.

What a wonderful history you have. Many your women have been given excellent education and have gone on to fulfill good and useful careers, many as teachers. Through them many other levies have been affected for the purposes of God.

I have looked at the records for Ms Ada Naomi Thompson from whom the school gets its name. The details of her life talk at her baptism for Jesus at the age of 20 in 1889 and coming to India with the BMS in 1896. Among many things said of her work in Orissa, record states “”Her zeal for the promotion of equipped leadership in the Indian Church resulted in the formation of a training college for Christian teachers, from which a stream of women has gone to work in the surrounding country. Hers was a life of devotion to the women and children of India in the name of the Lord he served”

That is a wonderful testimony to a godly person. I am much encouraged that her fine work continues today and I believe there will be many young women ready to follow her example.

I send congratulations to the staff and students of school and wish you Gods riches blessing

I am very happy to know that the Thompson Women’s Secondary Training School, Cuttack, the Pioneer Women’s Teacher’s Training School of Orissa is celebrating its Centenary this years.            On this historical occasion I great the Headmistress, the Staff and the present and past students and all those who have contributed to the Institution, to enable I to reach this landmark.

I would like to make special mention of the Baptist Missionary Society, London and the Missionaries, without whose sacrifice and selfless service the Institution would not have achieved what it has achieved so far!

I am proud to say that the institution has been a towering one, not only being the pioneer in training women teachers for the schools within the state, but contributed to the cause of women’s development and upliftment through its training, irrespective of cast, creed and religion and played a prominent role in nation building

I look forward to many more years of constructive and productive work from the institution for the glory of God.

I wish the Centenary celebration all success and pray to the Almighty for his continued blessing and spiritual guidance to the Institution.
